I just think

Tae I agree that is like going around to the other martial art schools and say that style of martial art is wrong. Like part of a song went once " What might be right for may not be right for some"

We don't need to be out there telling John Q what is right and what is wrong. I will at my school when someone asks me a question I tell them that this answer is from my own experiance or opinion. There are just some things people have already perceived with the martial arts and there is no way how many times you tell them that is how they are going to see it. Very good point Tae

Here is a good example of what I have been talking aobut. I recieved and e-mail from a BB that I have know for over 30yrs. Now, this BB will tell you that they are first and foremost a competitor. Yet, they try and pass off things in their school, that any reality based teacher would know is going to get their students hurt.

Now, is it my duty to go around and infrorm thier students that what they are learning is only good in the ring? I don't think so. Thier students like the sport, and the getting bels the easy way.

If it not my duty to inform John Q. Public that everyone else is wrong, because the fact is, unless you know without a doubt that what the other one is teaching is Wrong, then you can't do it. And unless you are a perfect teacher, adn unless your styles is a perfect style, you cannot do it, nor do you hvae the right to do it.

There is no grey to it. Teach your students...and ONLY you students to the best of your ability what you know. Teach them what you consider the correct way(becasue every teacher will see their way differently). BUT, leave John Q. out of it. Heck when it comes down to it, everyone has only two choices. Go around to every school behind every teachers back and whisper in the students ears that their teachers are wrong(regardless of how long a class is), or stick to your students and what you tech them. Teach them the ethics, the techniques, and simple things the BEST YOU CAN. and leave it at that, becasue none of us are perfect, and none of us can say another is completely wrong in how they teach.

I teach my students for one thing. My friend teaches for another thing, and it is left up to the public(they are not STUPID), to figure out which is right for them. I agree...At my school, I will tell me students what I know based upon my experieicne, but the  rest is left up to the individuals to see for themselves, if they choose to do so.
